The dogs and I had a wonderful stroll over Bodmin moor this April morning, roaming over Ladydown and the Candras, Skylarks singing and sunshine all the way and we came across this little fellow. Staying close to his mother within a small herd of moorland ponies – the first foal of the year I have seen. After a warm weekend the branches of the trees are beginning to show green tips too. After a long, cold, wet Winter – it feels such a relief to see the first signs of Spring appear around us this year of 2018.
Like most of the country we experienced two deluges of snow in March, the first we’ve seen since 2010. It was beautiful and fun for a while but disruptive with guests cancelling or delayed due to the weather. Thankfully they have re-booked or they made it down later to enjoy their holiday.
Having said all that the dogs loved it, charging around throwing up the white stuff. It seemed to do something to them as they went crazy tearing around the place every time they went out in it. Once every 8 years is okay with me though!!
We had trouble with our on-line booking system in March too although delighted to report it is fixed and working smoothly again.
Over Easter we adventured North for a day out in Bude – a trip we have not made for many years. We parked at Summerleaze car park and headed to the beach with the dogs – this you can do all year, from May they must be on a lead. The tide was very low which gave a fantastic expanse of sand to explore. It was busy with dog walkers, horse riders and families having fun but it didn’t feel over crowded with such a lot of beach to enjoy. The outdoor tidal swimming pool, just voted the most romantic pool in UK, is also an added attraction in the Summer months.
Afterwards we walked along the towpath and stopped at a cafe for coffee on the side of the Canal. It turned out to be a great place to people watch with bikers coming and going and little boats and Peddleoes bobbing around on the water as people tried to manoeuvre them in the direction they wanted them to go.
Then a stroll around Bude high steet, most of the shops are independent and individual offering surf wear, clothing, furniture, jewellery, flowers, cafe’s and of course fish and chips. It also boasts one of the best pubs in Cornwall, The Barrell at Bude. A thoroughly enjoyable day out.
Looking forward to the year ahead we have a very busy few weeks to mid June with cottage availability thereafter – so if you are thinking of a break or longer holiday please do not hesitate to give us a call or email.
Wishing you all a great Spring!
Best wishes,
Angela & David Clark
